What you'll actually skate

The park runs on two levels. A pocket corner and a curved bank sit at opposite ends, and the raised central level has banks down the sides with ledges and a wallie penny to play off. There is a bank hip and a table top too. Then there is the large area of open slab, which is where beginners get room to practise ollies and where you can grind the flat rails and ledges without traffic. It reads as a park that grows with you rather than one you outgrow in a week.

Good to know before you go:

Being a free open park, most of the action is informal, day-to-day riding with local skaters. The council also runs holiday activity schemes in its parks through the summer, so it is worth checking what is on before a school-break visit.

The story

A skatepark with a view of the river

Plenty of skateparks get parked on a bare patch of tarmac on the edge of town. Solitude went the other way. It sits inside one of Banbridge's best-loved green spaces, right on the River Bann, so a session here comes with gardens, a playground and the water a few steps away.

That setting is the quiet reason it works for families. One child can skate while another heads for the play area, a parent can walk the gardens, and the toilets and cafes are close by. You come for the concrete and stay for the afternoon.
