What you get to ride

There is a lot of concrete here. The deep end is a ten-foot bowl for the transition riders, and the street side spreads out into ledges, stair sets, banks, sharp hips, waterfalls and volcanoes to link endless lines. The scale is the point, so on a busy day riders spread across the park rather than queuing for one feature. It reads well for beginners on the flatter street areas and gives advanced riders serious size to work with.

Good to know before you go:

As a free open park it does not run booked sessions, but its size makes it a regular host for community skate jams and demos in the borough. Check local listings for events.

The story

About the park

Skate100 was built by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council at the V36 site beside Valley Leisure Centre, a roughly £0.75m investment that gave the area one of the biggest free skateparks in the UK and Ireland. Pairing it with a play park, picnic areas and parking turned it into a family destination rather than a standalone ramp, drawing riders from well beyond Newtownabbey.
