The fishing

The main lake covers around 6 acres and is fished for quality rainbow trout. With more than 1,000 metres of bank and 40 wooden bench seats spread around the water, you get room to find your own spot. Tickets run from morning through to dusk, with cheaper evening tickets if you only want a few hours after work.

Good to know before you go:

Movilla restocks with quality rainbows to keep the fishing strong through the season and posts updates on its Facebook page. Ask at the office about tuition and quieter times to bring first-timers.

The story

A local water kept sharp

Owner Keith Duncan runs Movilla as a proper fly water on the doorstep of Newtownards, close enough for an evening session yet big enough that you can fish all day without tripping over the next angler. The rod hire and the children's pond are the tell: this is a fishery that wants you to come back, and to bring the family the next time.
