What you get to ride

The pump track is 80 metres of banked turns and undulations that you keep moving on by pumping the transitions rather than pedalling, which makes it a brilliant place for kids on bikes or scooters to build flow. Next to it, the 400 square metre skatepark brings ramps, grind rails and trick features for skateboards, scooters and BMX. Between the two you get an easy on-ramp for beginners and enough to keep more confident riders busy.

Good to know before you go:

As a free open park it does not run booked sessions, but the council added it as a community facility and further investment in the site has been signalled. Check local listings for any organised jams.

The story

About the park

Dunleath Urban Sports Park was delivered by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council with the Department for Communities at a cost of more than £439,000, opening to the public in September 2025. It was built to give young people in Downpatrick a free, safe, off-road place to ride, and to help draw people towards the town's shops and leisure centre as part of a wider regeneration effort.
