Beer brewed where the water comes from

This is a small independent brewery, not a polished visitor centre, and that is the appeal. The beers are made on site with fresh Mourne mountain water and a locally cultivated house yeast, spanning core and seasonal ales, lagers and stouts. When the taproom is trading you can drink those beers within yards of where they are made, from rotating taps that change with what is brewing. There is usually wood-fired pizza to go with it and a relaxed, community feel rather than a slick bar.

The story

About Mourne Mountains Brewery

Mourne Mountains Brewery was founded in 2015 in Warrenpoint, County Down, as an independent microbrewery. Its identity is built around the Mourne Mountains themselves: the brewery uses fresh water drawn from the range, Irish-sourced base malts and a house yeast cultivated locally.

The beer range spans crisp, hoppy pilsners and lagers through to bold imperial stouts, packaged in cans and kegs and listed by beer raters and CAMRA. Alongside the brewing operation, the site developed a taproom for drinking fresh, locally known for its wood-fired pizza, which at the time of writing is being renovated ahead of reopening.
