Your own boat, your own pace on the Erne

You drive the cruiser yourself across Upper and Lower Lough Erne, mooring where you like and sleeping aboard. Carrickcraft has around 15 types of boat at Bellanaleck, from 2-berth up to larger 6-berth and bigger family cruisers, each with a fitted galley, hot shower and comfortable cabins. A safety briefing and hands-on handling lesson come before you set off, so beginners are welcome and no licence is required. Out on the water you may see Devenish Island's round tower, Enniskillen Castle, the National Trust estate at Crom and waterbirds along the reedy shores, though nothing on the water is guaranteed. With cabins, life jackets and a steady inland route, it suits families happy to spend a few days afloat together.

The story

About the trip

Carrickcraft has been running cruising holidays for almost 50 years, with its first marina opening at Carrick-on-Shannon in the 1970s and the Bellanaleck base on Upper Lough Erne following in 1994 after the canal between Ireland and Northern Ireland reopened. It is recognised as one of Ireland's longest-established and most experienced cruiser-hire firms and pioneered one-way cruises between its marinas.

From Bellanaleck the whole of the Erne opens up, with easy access to Enniskillen and on towards Kesh and Belleek past Devenish Island and other historic sites.
