About The Rinkha
The Rinkha was built in 1937 and was a beloved dance hall and community centre until the 1960s - the name is an Irish-rooted word for a place of dance and mirth. It is still owned by the Hawkins family, now in its fourth generation, and the award-winning ice cream traces back to a secret recipe created by Henrietta Hawkins in 1921.
Today it trades as a general shop, ice-cream parlour, cafe and toy store at 55 Middle Road, Islandmagee, a popular stop on the Causeway Coastal Route and near The Gobbins Cliff Path.
