Lessons for every stage

Group lessons run from half-hour lead-rein sessions suiting children from age 6 right through to lessons for experienced riders. Children's lead-rein groups currently take place on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Private and semi-private lessons can be arranged Monday to Saturday depending on availability, on a riding-school horse or your own. As a guide, a 45-minute private lesson on a school horse is around £71.50 and a 30-minute beginner lead-rein lesson around £57, so check the current rates when you book.

The story

About the place

Laurel View is a family-run, BHS-approved riding school, livery yard and competition, training and exam centre at Templepatrick in County Antrim. Its scale, with two indoor arenas and a cross-country course, lets it run both a beginner riding school and major competitions on the same site.

That combination is unusual and useful: a child can take a first lead-rein lesson in a yard that also hosts serious sport, which gives beginners somewhere to grow into. Riding for the Disabled and the Pony Club run alongside the competition schedule.
