Plan your visit

Lawn bowls, not tenpin

The green here is an outdoor synthetic surface, so expect quiet rolling of bowls toward a jack rather than a tenpin lane with bumpers and ramps. The club runs free public sessions through the season and welcomes complete beginners, including young people, with no experience needed. Woods are supplied, so you can just turn up and have a go. It suits families with older children, grandparents and groups who fancy something relaxed and outdoors. For little ones used to ramps and lightweight balls at a tenpin centre, this is a different, slower activity.

The outdoor season runs through the warmer months with free public sessions and weekday club nights, plus the club welcomes new members. Theatre at the Mill on the same site runs a year-round programme of shows. Check their own pages for current dates, sessions and prices.

The story

About the venue

Mossley Mill is a restored former linen mill complex and the headquarters of Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council, with a mill pond, steeple chimney and two four-storey office wings linked by a glazed circular stairwell. The Theatre at the Mill, a 400-seat venue in the complex, opened in January 2010. The outdoor bowling green is run with Mossley Outdoor Bowling Club, offering free public sessions across the summer season.
