About Jawbox Gin
Jawbox was created by experienced publican Gerry White, who developed the recipe while managing the bar at The John Hewitt in Belfast and launched the gin in 2016. It was the first gin to carry a Belfast name in over a century. The name comes from the jawbox, the deep, square Belfast sink that was the focal point of old Irish homes and the spot where the household gossip, or jaw, was exchanged.
The gin is made at the Echlinville Distillery on the Ards Peninsula in County Down, which in 2013 became the first new distillery in Northern Ireland for 125 years and bills itself as Ireland's first farm distillery. Jawbox Classic Dry Gin is a 43% classic dry style built on botanicals including juniper, coriander, lemon peel, angelica and orris root, with local Black Mountain heather harvested on the Cavehill overlooking Belfast. It has gone on to win international gin awards, and founder Gerry White has been recognised among the world's master gin makers.
