About the venue
The Ulster Hall opened on 12 May 1862, built to give the growing city of Belfast a large multi-purpose hall. It was designed by architect William J. Barre, who also designed the city's Albert Clock, for the Ulster Hall Company.
Its centrepiece is the Mulholland Grand Organ, built by William Hill & Son and named after former Belfast mayor Andrew Mulholland, who donated towards its cost. It's one of the oldest functioning classic English pipe organs and was restored to its original design in the late 1970s.
The hall was refurbished in 2009, restoring its Victorian character while modernising the facilities and improving access. Today it's home to the Ulster Orchestra and hosts music, comedy and family entertainment year-round.
