Twelve games, one caged target each

This is the modern, interactive take on axe throwing. Every lane has a screen running 12 games — Hostage, Connect Four, 21, Exey Ozeys, darts, a standard target and a trivia quiz that scores your throws against your general knowledge. Groups of 2 to 4 share a single dedicated cage and target; bigger groups of 5 to 8 get two targets. It's adults only, with over-18 ID required, and a coach is with you throughout. That makes it a good shout for friend groups, couples, date nights, hen and stag dos and work team days rather than a family outing with children.

About the venue

Axe Yard is the axe-throwing strand of Prison Island Belfast, a multi-activity venue on Balmoral Road that also runs 31 Crystal-Maze-inspired challenge cells, a TV-style Quiz Boxing game and the ThinkBox puzzle challenge. The axe throwing was introduced with interactive digital targets rather than the traditional static board, putting a games-and-scoring twist on the format.
