The Danny Boy connection, up close
The melody now sung as Danny Boy is the Londonderry Air, written down from a Limavady source in the 1850s. The museum holds a 1913 copy of the published Danny Boy sheet music and two volumes of Edward Bunting's Ancient Music of Ireland, dated 1809 and 1840, which record the older musical traditions of the borough. These sit among rotating displays on Limavady and Roe Valley life, so what's on view changes through the year. Because much of the accredited collection is held in store, ask staff if there's something specific you want to see.

Limavady Museum is the local-history museum for Limavady and the Roe Valley, run by Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council Museum Services. It is based inside the Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre on Main Street, which opened in 2010 and brought together galleries, an auditorium, studios and the museum collection under one roof.
The museum holds an accredited collection and presents it through rotating exhibitions, talks and workshops rather than a single permanent display.
