Built so every child can play

The kit here was chosen with disability in mind, but every child loves it. There are ramped climbing frames you can wheel up, wheelchair swings, an inclusive orbit roundabout, ground trampolines set flush with the surface, and boom tubes and an interactive activity wall for sound and music. A Chill Zone gives kids who need a quiet moment somewhere to settle. The accessible sensory trail runs through it all, and the whole park is wrapped in protective barriers on impact-absorbing flooring. Good for toddlers right up to older children.

The story

About the park

The Limavady Accessible Play Park opened to the public in November 2021 at Roe Mill Recreation Grounds, with an official ceremony on 25 January 2022. Ballykelly-born Paralympic athlete Sally Brown joined the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Richard Holmes, and pupils from Rossmar School to cut the ribbon.

It was built by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, with the Changing Places facility part-funded by the Department for Communities' Access and Inclusion Fund. The recreation grounds sit beside the River Roe on the edge of the town, close to the trails and waterfalls of Roe Valley Country Park.
