On the water and in the woods

The core of a Far and Wild day is a guided session with a trained instructor who provides the kit and the safety cover. On the water you can try stand-up paddleboarding on a calm lough or the Foyle, paddle a kayak, or do a guided wild swim. On land and coast they run hiking, coasteering and forest sessions with bushcraft skills like shelter-building and fire-lighting. Sessions typically run a couple of hours and are pitched to the group that books, so beginners and families get a gentle, well-supervised introduction rather than being thrown in at the deep end. The paddleboarding and kayaking on sheltered water tends to be the easiest first try for younger kids.

The story

About this place

Far and Wild is a green adventure company based in Derry~Londonderry, working out of St Columb's Park House on the Limavady Road. The team specialise in slow, immersive outdoor experiences with an ecological focus, often weaving in local food and the story of the habitats they paddle and walk through. Activities range across stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, wild swimming, hiking, coasteering and forest sessions, with guides including Darren, Lorcan and Darragh.

The company is IAAT accredited (Irish Association for Adventure Tourism) and listed by Discover Northern Ireland, Visit Derry and Outdoor NI, which set out their qualified-guide and safety standards for working on the water and the coast.
