What you will actually recognise

Derry Girls filmed across the city through all three series. The Guildhall appears again and again, including the season three Halloween party. Pump Street, just inside the walls, is where Granda Joe gets his cream horn. The exterior church scenes use St Columba's at Long Tower, and Bishop's Gate sits right on the walls you are walking. The mural on Orchard Street is the must-see photo, painted by local artists UV Arts to mark the second series launch. None of these are dressed sets, they are the real Derry streets the cast walked.

The story

About the location

Derry Girls ran for three series on Channel 4 between 2018 and 2022, written by Lisa McGee and set in her home city in the 1990s during the final years of the Troubles. The comedy filmed across real Derry locations, with the Guildhall, the city walls and the streets inside them appearing throughout.

Derry's walls were built between 1613 and 1619 and form a complete circuit around the old city, one of the few fully walled cities left in Ireland or Britain. Walking them is free and open to the public.

The mural that fans flock to was painted in January 2019 by UV Arts, a local not-for-profit group of artists, on the side of Badger's Bar on Orchard Street, opposite the Foyleside shopping centre, to mark the launch of the show's second series.
