What's on for families

The Forum programmes drama, dance, comedy, musicals, light entertainment and children's shows right through the year. For families that means touring kids' productions, family-friendly music and seasonal entertainment, with a festive show around Christmas drawing the biggest crowds. Because it's a working theatre rather than a gallery, there's no free exhibition to wander; you pick a show and book seats. The children's shows suit younger kids, while the musicals, comedy and drama land better with older children and teens. Check the venue's own listings for what's coming up, recommended ages and ticket prices, as these change with every season.

The story

About the venue

The Millennium Forum opened in 2001 as Derry/Londonderry's first purpose-built theatre and conference centre, built just inside the city's historic walls on Newmarket Street. It houses Ireland's largest theatre stage and a main auditorium seating over 1,000.

Since opening it has welcomed well over 300,000 visitors a year and become the principal cultural venue for the North West, with a programme spanning drama, dance, comedy, musicals, light entertainment and children's shows, alongside its role as a conference and events centre.
