A tandem flight off the Antrim hills

On a tandem you're harnessed in alongside the instructor and run off a hill to launch — no licence or experience needed. A standard flight is around 15-20 minutes of unpowered soaring, and once you're up you can take the controls or simply enjoy the views. There's a passenger weight limit of 110kg (17.3 stone). Flying suits, gloves and harnesses are provided; bring practical clothes and ankle-supporting boots. Gift vouchers, valid 12 months, are available if you're booking it as a present.

Good to know before you go:

Flying here runs on the weather, so slots move at short notice — take the reschedule, it’s part of the sport. Some of the sites and clubs listed on Days Out NI are for members and qualified pilots rather than walk-in visitors, so check what’s on offer before you set off. And check the age, weight and health limits before you book: they’re set by the aircraft, not by anyone being fussy.

The story

About it

Aerosports has been running since June 1996 and is one of the longest continuously operating paragliding schools in Northern Ireland, accredited by the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA school no. 297).

Flights are run under Chief Flying Instructor Ken McConnell, one of NI's most experienced pilots, with thousands of logged hours across paragliding, hang gliding and paramotoring. Alongside tandems, the school trains new pilots from Elementary through Club Pilot level.
