What families do here

Exhibitions are free to view and change through the year, so there is always something new on the walls. For 1-3s, Void Tots are relaxed messy-play sessions with an artist, paints and materials, so old clothes are a good idea. The Curiosity Club is a drop-in creative space with materials and prompts tied to whatever is currently showing, and seasonal family days bring things like animation, lantern-making and craft workshops. Older children aged 4-14 can join bookable Void Explorers workshops, and 8-14s can apply to the Children's Panel to help plan the gallery's young programme. It is the kind of place where looking at art and making your own happen in the same visit.

The story

About the venue

Void Art Centre is a contemporary art space in Derry showing work by established Irish and international artists across its galleries on Waterloo Place. Admission to exhibitions is free for all.

At the heart of the organisation is Void Engage, its learning and outreach programme, which puts participation and access first and aims to make contemporary visual art open to visitors of every age. The Void Tots, Curiosity Club, Void Explorers workshops and Children's Panel all sit under this work, alongside school and group visits.
