Free art to browse, shows worth booking

Walk in and the gallery and exhibition space are free, with work by local artists changing through the year, alongside a craft shop stocking local arts and crafts. That makes it a quick, no-cost stop if you're in town. The theatre is where you'll find the ticketed action: children's performances and family shows, dance, drama, concerts and comedy, with pantomime at Christmas. Programming runs in seasons rather than one-offs, so there's usually something on the calendar. The centre also runs occasional workshops, from craft to creative sessions. Check the What's On listings at burnavon.com for current dates, prices and age guidance.

The story

About the venue

The Burnavon Arts & Cultural Centre is described as the only theatre venue of its kind in Mid-Ulster. Run by Mid Ulster District Council, it brings together a 347-seat auditorium, a gallery and exhibition space, a craft shop selling local arts and crafts, the Gallery Bar and a Visitor Information point under one roof on Burn Road, just off Cookstown town centre.

Across the year it programmes concerts, comedy, drama, dance, visual arts and children's performances, and supports arts in the community and schools. The centre is recognised for its customer service and accessibility, holding WorldHost Business Recognition and the Autism NI Impact Award, with all staff Autism Awareness trained.
