What the wall is actually like

This is roped top-rope climbing, not bouldering and not a Clip 'n Climb auto-belay centre. The wall offers about 50 square metres of climbing on modern surfaces with an overhang, built around seven independently equipped lines and roughly 28 colour-marked routes, reaching about 9m at the highest point. That setup covers beginners through to more experienced climbers stretching themselves on harder lines. It suits families and adults who want a real roped climbing experience locally, with the structure and supervision of a club behind it.

The story

About the venue

The wall is a purpose-built indoor climbing wall completed for North Coast Integrated College in Coleraine, with seven equipped top-rope lines and an overhang reaching about 9m. It is managed at the college and looked after by John Wilkinson.

North Coast Climbers became a formal club in December 2018, growing from beginners to experienced climbers. Members climb at the NCIC wall and also head to Foyle Arena, Boulder World and outdoor crags, with the club affiliated to Mountaineering Ireland for insurance.
