Ferry across, then pick your adventure

The day starts with the resort's little Corlougharoo ferry, which runs on demand and takes only a few minutes to reach the island. On the 75 acres you'll find free woodland nature trails where you might see swans, ducks and deer, plus the Fairy Trail and a play park for younger children. The paid activities are short, guided sessions: kayaks run about an hour, archery and air rifles work through a set number of shots, and clay-pigeon shooting gives you 20 shots. None of it is hard hiking; it's an activity-day rather than a long walk, so you choose how much you take on. The bay bikes, which let you ride out over the shallow water, are the most unusual thing here and a real talking point.

The story

About this place

Lusty Beg is a 75-acre private island in Lower Lough Erne, off Boa Island in County Fermanagh's lakelands. Cars and visitors reach it on the resort's own small ferry, the Corlougharoo, which crosses on demand from the mainland pier in a few minutes.

Alongside the outdoor activity centre, the island runs as a resort with lodges, a spa and a restaurant set among heritage woodland. The grounds are home to wildlife including swans, ducks and deer, and the free woodland nature trails, Fairy Trail and play park make the island itself a draw before you add any of the paid adventures.
