The zip wire and the activities your kids actually do

The signature ride is a zip wire of around 375m, one of the longest in Ireland, sending you out high over the site. Beyond that, a typical day mixes archery, a climbing tower with abseil, raft building on the water, karting, orienteering and problem-solving team games. Groups usually get several activities packed into a half or full day rather than one quick go. Instructors set up and run each one, so children get coached through the scary bits. The exact line-up depends on your booking, your group size and what the weather allows.

The story

About this place

Lurgaboy is a family-run outdoor pursuits centre in the County Armagh countryside, on a roughly 35-acre site on the Gosford Road near Markethill. It was set up in 2004 by Armagh mountaineer Richard Dougan and his partner Arlene Robertson.

Richard had led a Northern Ireland expedition to Mount Everest in 2003, and the trip inspired him to build a place at home where young people and adults could test themselves outdoors. The business grew with his family involved, including his sister Rachel, who shares his love of the hills.

The team's stated aim is to use the outdoors to build confidence and self-esteem and break down barriers, running activity days for families, schools, youth groups and corporate teams.
