What you can actually play

Each pod is fitted with a VR headset and hand controllers, so you're physically moving and reaching inside the game rather than just watching. The game library is broad — explore oceans and galaxies, climb mountains, soar through the skies, or blast through hordes of zombies. There are also full-motion racing simulators for a different kind of thrill, and the centre has added escape-room style experiences. Staff set you up and keep an eye on the session. VR has motion and intensity considerations, so check age suitability with the venue when you book.

The story

About the centre

Altesc was set up by Chris Canavan and opened in June 2017 as Northern Ireland's first dedicated virtual-reality gaming centre, originally in the Centrepoint Complex in Lurgan. It took about six months to develop and started with four pods, with plans to grow to ten as demand built.

Early on, customer numbers were doubling week on week, and the centre quickly became known for kids' birthdays, corporate team-building and casual gamers wanting to try VR for the first time. It has since relocated to Lisburn Leisure Park.
