Niche Coastal runs the session as a simple sequence. Rinse: a shower first to cleanse your skin. Hot: sit on a towel in the sauna for 5 to 15 minutes. Cold: take the plunge. Rest: let your body come back to equilibrium before you go again. Cold water is offered as sea dipping and ice baths, and the operator is clear that you take it at your own risk.

Social sessions bring a group of strangers together for an hour, and private sessions are the route for families with children aged 7 to 16. The sauna is portable, so the team will bring it to a location of your choice for private events.

The story

A young business on the north coast

Niche Coastal is a small independent outfit founded by Declan McCook, who started it at 23. The stated aim is a slice of luxury that stays accessible and affordable, which is roughly what a £20 seat in a wood-fired sauna on the seafront amounts to.

It has picked up some recognition already, finishing runner-up in the FSB and HSBC Start-up Business Awards. The sauna keeps running through the winter, which is arguably when you want it most.
