A play park the whole age range can share

The play park was rebuilt as an inclusive space, with equipment chosen so children of different ages and abilities can play in the same spot. That includes wheelchair-accessible kit, so a child who uses a chair is not stuck watching from the side. Younger ones get gentler, lower play while older kids have more to climb and swing on. It is well used and easy to keep an eye on, with the lough and the marina giving the bigger children plenty to watch between turns.

The story

About the park

Antrim Lough Shore Park sits where the Six Mile Water meets Lough Neagh, the largest freshwater lake in the British Isles. The wider park covers a long stretch of open shoreline with a marina, a caravan and camping site, and The Gateway exhibition centre telling the story of the lough and its wildlife.

It is run by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and forms part of a chain of free green spaces around the town, with Antrim Castle Gardens, Clotworthy House and the woodland walks at Rea's Wood all within easy reach. The play park was upgraded as part of the council's wider investment in inclusive, all-ages playgrounds across the borough.
