About the park
Wallace Park was given to Lisburn in 1884 by Sir Richard Wallace, the town's landlord and a noted art collector and philanthropist. He first visited Lisburn in 1873 and in 1880 founded both a school, now Wallace High School, and what was then called The People's Park. After Wallace died in 1890, the town commissioners renamed the park in his honour.
The 26 acres keep much of their Victorian character. A 2012 restoration brought back the bandstand and the duck pond, with new paths, lighting, seating and the children's play area you see today, alongside the long-standing cricket and tennis grounds.
