Four spring-fed lakes for fly and bait

The fishery has four man-made lakes fed by a clear supply of spring water - three for fly fishing and one for bait. They're stocked regularly with rainbow and steelhead trout, with fish reported from around 2lb up to 22lb and beyond, so even a quiet day can turn up a hard-fighting fish. The relaxed setting and on-site help make it a sensible place for a first cast, which is why it suits older children and beginners getting started. A log-cabin lodge serves hot and cold drinks and snacks, with a tackle shop to top up your fly box and toilets on site. Check directly with the fishery about tackle hire and what young anglers need to bring.

The story

About the fishery

Birchwood is a family-run trout fishery on the Sloughan Road at Drumquin, around 20 minutes from Omagh in the Sperrins region. Its four man-made lakes are fed by clear spring water and stocked through the week with rainbow and steelhead trout, giving fish that are ready for a good hard fight when hooked.

Alongside the fishing there's a log-cabin lodge for drinks, snacks and tackle, and on-site accommodation pods for anglers who want to stay over. Day-to-day enquiries and bookings are handled by Dorothy at the fishery.
