A laid-back cruise through the islands

This is a skippered sightseeing cruise, not a boat you drive yourself, so everyone can relax and take in the view. The 57-seat cruiser is heated and has a licensed bar, which makes it comfortable even on a cooler day. Over about 1.5 to 2 hours you weave through the network of small islands that dot Upper Lough Erne, taking in the Fermanagh shoreline and passing the castle ruins at Crom. You may spot waterbirds and other wildlife along the way, though nothing on the lough is guaranteed. It suits families and groups who want an easy trip on the water; keep an eye on younger children on board.

The story

About the trip

The Inishcruiser is operated by SHARE Discovery Village, a long-established residential activity centre set on a 60-acre site on the shores of Upper Lough Erne, just outside Lisnaskea in Co. Fermanagh. The cruiser gives day visitors and guests a way to enjoy this maze-like part of the lough from the comfort of a heated boat with a bar.

The route is known for the cluster of small wooded islands that crowd Upper Lough Erne and for the castles at Crom, where the ruins of the original Plantation castle stand near the 18th-century house that remains home to the Earl of Erne.
