About the Royal Irish Fusiliers Museum
The Royal Irish Fusiliers were formed in 1881 from regiments first raised in Dublin in 1793. For generations the Regiment drew its soldiers from Armagh and the surrounding counties, and its museum keeps that story together in one place.
The museum opened to the public in 1997, housed in Sovereign's House, a building put up around 1810 from local Armagh stone. As well as displaying the collection, it works as a research centre, with staff able to help with military service records and family-history enquiries.
Among its holdings are two Victoria Crosses won by the Regiment, alongside uniforms, medals, photographs and the records of the Armagh, Cavan and Monaghan Militias from 1793 to 1968.
