A proper rainy-day saviour in Dunmurry — a jungle-themed three-tier frame stuffed with obstacles, rope bridges and slides for kids up to 10, a separate multi-level zone for the babies and toddlers, and Roary's Café with a clear view of the play.

  • What you'll do — a big three-tier jungle frame of obstacles, twists, rope bridges and slides for children up to 10.
  • Under-3s get their own — a separate multi-level toddler and baby zone with a sensory ball pit, a safari hut to clamber and a gentle toddler slide, so the littlest aren't lost among the big kids.
  • Roary's Café — coffee, treats and hot food, free wifi throughout, and seating with a clear view of the frame.
  • How long & cost — sessions run about 90 minutes, recently around £7.95 a child (babies under 12 months about £2, reduced or free with an older sibling on some sessions). Prices change, so check.
  • Wheelchair access — the lower levels are wheelchair accessible, and Toddler Mornings run Mon–Fri 9.30am–12pm for a calmer session.
  • A social enterprise — profits are reinvested back into the local area, so a day out here does a bit of good too.
  • Socks needed. Grippy anti-slip socks are required (often for grown-ups too) — bring a pair each, or buy them at reception.
  • Busy at weekends & holidays. Walk-in for general play, but it fills at peak times and last admission is around 4.30pm — book ahead for parties.

The story

Dunmurry's jungle-themed frame

Roar and Explore opened at the Dairy Farm Shopping Centre in Dunmurry and runs as a social enterprise, with profits reinvested back into the local area — and it picked up a Days Out With The Kids award in 2019. The heart of it is a three-tier jungle frame, with a separate under-3s zone and Roary's Café alongside.

It has since added a second branch at the Kennedy Centre in west Belfast, but the Dairy Farm site is the original — a reliable, good-hearted few hours indoors whenever the Belfast weather does its thing.
