Sailing, diving and a working harbour club

The club runs cruising and dinghy sailing from the Town Harbour, with fishing and surfing sections and boat-launching facilities for members. The Skerrie Scuba section is affiliated to BSAC and takes divers from trainees up to advanced, with its own boat access through the club. Because it is a members' club rather than a school or hire centre, sailing and diving here assume you are joining, training or already experienced rather than booking a single session. The clubhouse itself, with its harbour views and weekend social side, is open to visitors. Families who want to get into sailing or diving for a season, rather than a one-off taster, are the natural fit.

Good to know before you go:

Sailing clubs like this run junior schemes, RYA courses, racing and seasonal events, and some host open or try-sail days; the Skerrie Scuba section trains divers too. All on-water sessions are weather- and tide-dependent, so check the club's own pages for current dates, membership and prices.

The story

About the operator

Portrush Yacht Club was founded in 1894 and is one of the larger sailing clubs of its kind in Northern Ireland, with around 1,000 members. It sits in the Town Harbour between the West and East Strands on the Causeway Coast and is RYA-affiliated, with cruising, dinghy, fishing and surfing sections.

The Skerrie Scuba section is the club's diving arm, affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), with members ranging from trainees to advanced divers who use the club's boat-launching and social facilities.
