What the course is actually like

Footgolf is played on real golf-style parkland, so you walk fairways and putt-zones the same way golfers do, just with your feet and a football. The Mount Ober layout runs to 18 holes at roughly 1,581 yards and a par of 67, with a 9-hole option for shorter visits or younger legs. It is outdoor, so it is weather-dependent and best on a dry day. There is genuine skill to it, judging your run-up and the slope, but the rules are simple enough that a child can play alongside an adult and still have a chance. Wear trainers or moulded boots; studs and ordinary shoes are not ideal on the turf.

The story

About the course

Mount Ober sits on parkland above south Belfast in the Knockbracken area and has long been associated with golf at the site. In recent years it has been promoted as a home of footgolf in Northern Ireland, where a golf-style course is played with a football rather than clubs, alongside other outdoor activities. As with any outdoor venue, what is open can change season to season, so the venue's own channels are the best place to confirm current details.
