A zip line, swings and gym kit in one spot

The play area was rebuilt with a mix of traditional and interactive equipment, so there's swings and climbing alongside newer interactive pieces. The zip line is the draw for older kids. While they play, the adjacent 'tone zone' gives parents a row of outdoor gym equipment to use. It's a tight, well-kept set-up best for toddlers up to primary age. The council has approved further accessible upgrades, including a wheelchair swing and a quiet sensory area, with a Changing Places accessible toilet planned.

The story

About the park

Megaw Park sits on the Coleraine Road in the centre of Ballymoney. In 2016 the former Ballymoney Borough Council completed a £1.26 million redevelopment, adding a new pavilion with a warden's office and changing rooms, a rebuilt children's play area, the adult 'tone zone' outdoor gym, three new tennis courts and a sand-based soccer pitch.

In 2023 the council, now Causeway Coast and Glens, approved a further accessibility upgrade under its Play Strategy Action Plan. Plans include a wheelchair swing funded by the Department for Communities, a quiet sensory area, a Changing Places accessible toilet, and converting the existing zip line into what would be one of the first accessible zip lines in a play park.
