Learn to surf or paddleboard with everything supplied

This is a school, so you book a session and a coach teaches you — handy if you have never stood on a board before. Surf lessons run on Benone Strand and stand-up paddleboarding takes place on the calmer River Roe at Swanns Bridge, which suits nervous first-timers and families. Lessons are around 2.5 hours with wetsuits and boards provided, so you only need to bring yourself and a towel. Kids' surfing is open from age 6, group and private lessons are available, and the school makes special provision for surfers with disabilities. Basic comfort and confidence in the water helps, so check ability requirements when you book.

The story

About the operator

Long Line Surf School is an independent, WSA (Water Skills Academy) accredited surf school on Northern Ireland's north coast, operating within the Binevenagh Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its instructors are fully trained surf and SUP coaches who also hold beach lifeguard qualifications, and the school runs annual audits to maintain WSA standards.

Surf activities are based on Benone Strand, a long open beach, while stand-up paddleboarding runs on the sheltered River Roe at Swanns Bridge. The school is known for beginner-friendly coaching, kids' surfing and provision for surfers with disabilities.
