Bentra Mini-GolfCouncil crazy golf by the Whitehead coast — but check it's still running before you go.

  • The course: 18 (mini-golf section).
  • Theme: No themed obstacles confirmed — a coastal council course, not a jungle/pirate-style attraction.
  • Cost: Not confirmed — check current prices with the venue (council historically charged a small fee).
  • Indoor or out: Outdoor — weather-dependent, treat as seasonal.
  • Booking: Walk-in historically, but phone first to confirm it is open at all.
  • Also on site: 9-hole parkland golf course, clubhouse, on-site parking; motorhome aire nearby.

What the mini golf is (and the honest caveat)

This is outdoor putter mini golf — crazy golf with 18 holes — not footgolf and not pitch and putt. It sits next to the council's 9-hole parkland golf course rather than being a themed standalone attraction, so expect a straightforward seaside round rather than jungle or pirate set-pieces. As an outdoor course it is weather-dependent and effectively seasonal. The big caveat: in 2024 Mid and East Antrim Borough Council decided not to progress the repairs the mini-golf section needed, a decision reported as leading to its closure, and it no longer features on the council's Bentra page. Treat the crazy golf as 'check before you travel', because we cannot confirm it is open today.

Good to know before you go:

Mini golf venues often run birthday parties, holiday and seasonal events, and outdoor courses open seasonally — but with Bentra's mini-golf section flagged for closure and not listed on the council's current page, check directly before planning anything around it. The council has also been exploring leasing or outsourcing the wider Bentra site, so the offer may change.

The story

About the course

Bentra is a Mid and East Antrim Borough Council golf facility on the Slaughterford Road near Whitehead, built around a 9-hole parkland course laid out in 1935 by James Braid, with a clubhouse and on-site parking. For years it also offered an outdoor 18-hole mini-golf section alongside the main course.

In 2024 councillors decided against funding the roughly £3,050 of repairs the mini-golf area needed against modest annual income, a decision reported as resulting in its closure, and the section no longer appears on the council's Bentra course page. The council has since been in discussions about leasing or outsourcing the wider site. Because of this, the mini golf's current availability is uncertain — please confirm with the venue before relying on it.
