What the tour and gin school give you

The distillery tour begins in the tasting lounge, then walks you through the production room where the team explains how they craft their spirits and finishes with a G&T made from their own gin. At the sister gin school you blend and distil a full-size signature bottle of your own, choosing from over 80 botanicals while you sip a few G&Ts and a cocktail along the way. You leave the class with a bottle you made yourself. Both sit close together in Newtownabbey, so a short tour and a longer hands-on class slot together into one afternoon.

The story

About Belfast Artisan Distillery

Belfast Artisan Distillery was granted its producer's licence in July 2023 and is based at Mallusk Enterprise Park in Newtownabbey. It makes a London Dry gin with a Belfast Twist, using three locally inspired botanicals — rowanberries, pink heather and flaxseed — alongside the classic gin base. Director Jo Davison has said the team is incredibly proud of that local character.

For a young producer it has picked up a strong run of awards, including Best Irish Newcomer, two Silver Gin Master awards, and a World Gin Awards title for Best Northern Irish London Dry. Alongside the distillery, the business runs a gin school above the Crown & Shamrock Inn on the Antrim Road, where visitors distil their own bottles, making it both a working producer and a visitor experience.
