What you'll see inside

The permanent exhibition runs through the local story from the earliest times to the present. Look for the Derrykeighan Stone, the 1798 Rebellion display, the two World Wars, the Corfield camera factory and the road racing history that the area is known for. Upstairs the community gallery hosts the History Resource Area, useful if you're researching family genealogy, plus a 3D map of the town and the McAfee film archive. The children's area has interactive sensory walls, dress-up spaces and reading corners to keep younger visitors busy.

The story

About Ballymoney Museum

Ballymoney Museum is the local history museum for the Ballymoney area, run by Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council and housed within the town's Town Hall on Townhead Street. Its permanent exhibition tells the story of the area from the earliest Mesolithic settlers through to the present day, summed up in its own phrase, 'Mesolithic to Motorcycles'.

The collection reflects the things the area is known for: the enigmatic Derrykeighan Stone, which gives the museum its logo; the 1798 Rebellion; the Corfield camera factory; and Ireland's road racing heritage. Upstairs, the History Resource Area supports genealogical research and holds local film archive material, making it a useful stop for anyone tracing Ballymoney roots.
